Daniel Mack
- December 6, 2017

Born March 12, 1946 in Atascadero, California to Patrick Jerome and Jacqueline Jean (Philip) Mack. Later during childhood, the family moved back to Rapid City, South Dakota. Dan spent his childhood growing up with Mother Nature where he felt in his element.   Dan was proud of his Sioux Indian Heritage and is a great grandson of James “Scotty” Philip, and a distant nephew of Thasunke Witko (Crazy Horse), a title of South Dakota honor.

During high school Dan was involved FFA. He incorporated those values into raising his three children and all were involved in 4-H. He is a graduate of SDSU with a BS in Medical Technology. He worked in the medical field for 10 years and combined his training and love of animals to expand care to our furry friends.  Dan served in the US Army and was a Vietnam vet.  He was proud of his country and was honored to have served with the most wonderful men.

Dan was blessed with three children and four grandchildren. All of them are different and unique; adding to the purpose of his life. Dan enjoyed the times he spent with his family raising and racing sled dogs.  His family and friends are his legacy and he thanks all of them for being a part of his life. He is survived by his son, Daniel Mack; daughter, Shannon (Matthew) Sherwin; four grandchildren, Brenden, Travis, Sarah and Riley; sister, Geraldine Lamoureux; and brother, Ronald Mack.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Jacqueline; brother, Patrick; and his son, Patrick Mack.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, December 15, 2017 at Black Hills Funeral Home in Sturgis, SD.  Burial will follow at 11:00 am at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Military honors will be rendered by the Sturgis Volunteer Honor Guard and the SD Army National Guard.
