Beverly Louise Tetreault, 89 of Spearfish passed away peacefully at Serenity Corner assisted living on January 10th, 2018.

She was born in Omaha, Nebraska on May 3rd, 1928 to John and Geneva Brustkern. The family moved many times between Nebraska and South Dakota while she was growing up. She received her teaching certificate from the University of Nebraska, Omaha and moved to Belle Fourche to teach. She met Albert “Bud” Tetreault there and was married in 1949. To this union six children were born. She spent the next 24 years being a mom, wife, cook, maid, driver and gardener when she had time. In 1972, she attended Black Hills State with her sons Rick and Scott and soon to be daughter -in- law Carole. She lived in Sturgis, Belle Fourche and then landed in Spearfish in 1972 where they built their home west of town and lived for the next 44 years. In 1974, she fulfilled a dream and bought the local bookstore in Spearfish. This became her new passion encompassing her love for books, retail and people. An opportunity to sell the store arose in 1988, and though she wasn’t really ready, they sold which turned out to be a good business decision. After that she worked in retail at Kathleen’s and then later at the Welcome Center west of town.

She is survived by her children, Albert “Rick” (Lori), Scott (Carole), Todd, Jedd (Laurie), Lizbeth “Betsy” (Mike) Ellis and Margaret (Aaron) Braun; fourteen grandchildren, Blane (Bridget) Tetreault, Jesse (Lyndsay)Tetreault, Shaun (Christel)Tetreault, Chris (Kelly) Tetreault, Tabitha Tetreault, Nikole (Thomas) Sederquist, Danyell Tetreault, Shiloh Ellis, Sierra Ellis, Michal Tetreault, Conner Tetreault, Devon Braun, Tate Ellis and McKenna Braun and five great-grandchildren.

Special thanks to Todd Tetreault for retiring and relocating to live with Bev so that she could continue to live in the home that she loved for as long as possible. Also thanks to the incredible staff at Serenity Corner for caring for Bev, she was always a challenge.

Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 16, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish. Inurment for Albert “Bud” and Bev will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery with full military rites by the Spearfish Honor Guard and the US Navy.
