Wheat Stocks Down 36 Percent; Oats Down 27

UNDATED - South Dakota corn stocks in all positions on December 1, 2017 totaled 663 million bushels, down 4 percent from 2016, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Of the total, 425 million bushels are stored on farms, down 9 percent from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 238 million bushels, are up 6 percent from last year.

Soybeans stored in all positions totaled 169 million bushels, up 8 percent from last year. On-farm stocks of 69.0 million bushels are up 5 percent from a year ago, while off-farm stocks, at 99.7 million bushels, are up 11 percent from 2016.

All wheat stored in all positions totaled 65.8 million bushels, down 36 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks of 26.5 million bushels are down 50 percent from 2016 and off-farm stocks of 39.3 million bushels are down 20 percent from last year.

Oats stocks totaled 3.94 million bushels, down 27 percent from last year. On-farm stocks, at 2.40 million bushels, are down 44 percent from a year ago, while off-farm stocks, at 1.54 million bushels, are up 38 percent from 2016.

Barley off-farm stocks of 3,000 bushels are unchanged from a year ago.

Hay stocks on South Dakota farms totaled 5.35 million tons on December 1, 2017, down 11 percent from a year earlier.

Grain storage capacity in South Dakota totaled 1.12 billion bushels, up 5 million bushels from December 1, 2016. Total grain storage capacity is comprised of 710 million bushels of on-farm storage, unchanged from last year, and 410 million bushels of off-farm storage, up 5 million bushels from 2016.
