Sturgis municipal election set for April 10

STURGIS, S.D. - The 2018 elections will be for the following City Council seats: Ward 1 incumbent Rod Bradley, Ward 2 incumbent  Scott Peterson, Ward 3 incumbent Ron Waterland and Ward 4 incumbent Rhea Crane.  All elected officials serve three-year terms. 

Petitions to run for office may be picked up at the Finance Office in City Hall starting January 26.  Valid petitions must be turned in at the Finance Office in City Hall no later than February 23 at 5:00 p.m. 

 

To be eligible to run for the office of City Council, you must meet the following criteria:

· You must be at least 18 years of age

· You must be a US Citizen

· You must reside in the ward you represent

 

The number of required petition signatures varies by ward and is based on the number of voters in the last general election as determined by the City Finance Officer.

 

Sample ballots and absentee ballots will be available at City Hall and on the City website by March 26. 

 

The deadline for voter registration is March 26 at 5:00 p.m.  If you are not currently a registered voter, you may register at several locations including Sturgis City Hall and the Meade County Auditor’s Office.  If you are not sure of your registration status, you can contact the Meade County Auditor’s Office at 347-2360 or visit the SD Secretary of State website at sdsos.gov/elections-voting/
