Bismarck Bobcat workers vote against union

The Associated Press - January 18, 2018

BISMARCK, N.D. - Workers at the Bobcat manufacturing facility in Bismarck have voted against joining a union.

The Bismarck Tribune reports the vote last week failed by a 2-to-1 margin.

Larry Johnson, a union member who works at Bobcat's facility in Gwinner, says the push behind the campaign was to improve health and safety and to negotiate higher wages.

The last time the manufacturing plant was unionized was before it ended excavator production in 2009. At that time, Bobcat laid off 475 workers from the Bismarck plant and 275 jobs were moved to the company's Gwinner plant.

The company is owned by Doosan Infracore International, a subsidiary of South Korea-based Doosan Infracore.
