Rockers Stumble In RMAC Loss To Westminster College; Westminster Shocks Lady 'Rockers

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's basketball team struggled shooting from the field Saturday afternoon and had trouble keeping pace with Westminster College, as the Griffins defeated the Hardrockers, 76-43, during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup at the King Center in Rapid City, S.D.

The Griffins outscored the Hardrockers, 34-22, in the first half, and then turned it up a notch over the final 20 minutes, bettering the home team, 42-21, to win by 33 points.

SD Mines, a team that has been averaging over 45 percent from the field all season, was cold on Saturday, shooting just 29.1. They converted 16-55 attempts, made good on 4-20 three-pointers and were 7-12 from the free throw line. The 'Rockers came down with 28 rebounds, recorded 14 assists, two steals and had one blocked shot.

Meanwhile, The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team had the rug pulled out from underneath them Saturday afternoon as the Westminster College Lady Griffin stole a win from the Hardrockers, 69-65, during a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game at the King Center in Rapid City, S.D.

The 'Rockers started out strong, jumping out to a 22-15 advantage after the first 10 minutes and extended their edge to 10 points with 8:22 remaining before halftime.
That's when the Griffins slowly started to turn the momentum. They bettered the home team, 17-13, in the second quarter and trailed by just three points at the half, 35-32.

The third quarter was a stalemate with SD Mines coming out one point better, 16-15, as the 'Rockers held on to a four-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, 51-47. Westminster turned on the jets in the fourth quarter, caught the home team and overtook them, outscoring the 'Rockers, 22-14 in the final frame, to nab the win.

The Hardrockers finished the game shooting 38.1 percent from the field hitting on 24-63 shots. They were 7-22 from the three-point line and 10-12 on free throws. They collected 26 rebounds, had 12 assists and six steals.
