All American Sheep Day coming up at stock show
BHSS - January 31, 2018

RAPID CITY, SD - The 2017 Black Hills Stock Show is going to sheep on Thursday, Feb. 1, with the All-American Sheep Day. This will include the National Sheep Shearing Championship, the North American Sheep Dog Trials, Mutton Bustin’, along with vendors and educational seminars at the James Kjerstad Event Center at the Central States Fairgrounds.

Top billing for the day’s excitement is the North American Sheep Dog Trials. The trials area a timed competition requiring a handler to communicate with his or her dog to quickly pen a flock of sheep. Dog handlers will be competing for the $5,000 in prize money. The event will start with the prelims at 11 a.m. and the top qualifiers will advance to the finals at 7:30 p.m.

The National Sheep Shearing Championship will once again partner with the sheep dog trials in which men and women from across North America will compete. The top finishers will advance to represent the United States at the 2018 World Finals. The Sheep Shearers will start their clippers at 10 a.m.

The wildest show on wool will feature sheep riders from ages 3 to 6 years of age competing in the Mutton Bustin’ at 7 p.m. Young buckeroos will have the opportunity to win trophies and prizes.
