ND-CWD in Deer

Two deer in southwest North Dakota have wasting disease

The Associated Press - January 31, 2018

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The North Dakota Game and Fish Department says two deer have tested positive for chronic wasting disease in the southwestern part of the state.

The department says a whitetail buck and a mule deer doe taken during the 2017 deer gun season from Unit 3F2 were found to have the deadly deer disease.

Eleven deer have tested positive for CWD in North Dakota since 2009. All were from the same unit. The Game and Fish Department implemented special regulations in 3F2 and surrounding units in 2010 to prevent the disease from spreading.

In addition to the 350 samples tested for CWD from unit 3F2, another 1,050 were tested from deer taken last fall by hunters in the central third of the state, and from any moose or elk taken during the hunting season.
