Red Cloud erases double-digit deficit to beat Sturgis; Scooper girls hang on
Gary Matthews - February 17, 2018

STURGIS, S.D. - Red Cloud erased a 14-point deficit and beat Sturgis by 7 Friday night.

It looked like the Scoopers would roll in the first quarter as Connor Crane knocked down four 3-pointers and Sturgis led 22-8. But red Cloud would chp in to the lead in the second quarter, and trailed 31-20 at the half.

The Crusaders would outscore Sturgis 18-11 in the third and 27-16 in the fourth to steal a 65-58 win.

Alejandro Rama led the Crusaders with 19 points. Louis Her Many Horses would chip in 12. Jesse Jensen knocked down four three throws down the stretch to help Red Cloud secure the victory.

Crane finished with 18 points -- with all of his field goals coming in the first quarter. Garland also added 18 points for the Scoopers.

Meanwhile, the Red Cloud girls almost pulled out a come-from-behind win over the Scoopers.

Their rally fell a little short, as Sturgis escaped with a 52-51 win.

Brook Janz scored 17 to lead the Scoopers. Olivia Jolley added 17.

Aaliyah Provost led Red Cloud with 23 points.

The Lady Crusaders made just 8 of 21 on free throws -- making a difference down the stretch.
