"Kitchens of the Great Midwest" book discussion in Sturgis

STURGIS, SD - The love of food unfolds in unusual ways in "Kitchens of the Great Midwest", the first novel by J. Ryan Stradal.  Born with a “once-in-a-generation palate,” the book's central figure Eva Thorvald, is a food prodigy.  The eight chapters paint a gastronomic portrait of a region - from burritos to lutefisk.  Along the way, the reader is introduced to not only Eva's but other's culinary journey.

A book discussion on "Kitchens of the Great Midwest" wiill be held Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 7:00pm at the Sturgis Public Library.  Presented as a selection from the South Dakota Humanities Council One Book SD program,  discussion moderator is Molly Barari, a newly minted Humanities Scholar who lives in Rapid City, SD and teaches creative writing through Commnity Education of the Black Hills.

When author J. Ryan Stradal isn’t writing, he works as a producer for a number of reality television series, including “Ice Road Truckers” and “Deadliest Catch,” a profession he credits for honing “an instinct for the necessary.”
