Scooper boys fall to RC Central in OT; girls win
Gary Matthews - February 27, 2018

STURGIS, S.D. – A 10-point swing late in the fourth quarter helped the Sturgis Scooper boys force overtime with second-seeded Rapid City Central Monday night.

The run was courtesy of Dawson Geuke and Connor Crane. Crane calmly knocked down the trey with 5-seconds left in regulation that tied the game at 47. It capped off a come-from-behind spurt by the Scoopers against the top ranked Cobblers.

But Central in overtime went to one of their best players – Kaileb Walton Blanden, and beat Sturgis 61-55. Walton-Blanden finished with 21 points – and four free-throws down the stretch in the extra period to give the Cobblers the cushion they needed.

Elijah Williams added 16 for the Cobblers. Geuke led the Scoopers with 17 points.

In the girls game, the Scoopers stunned the Cobblers with a 53-50 win.

Brook Janz had a big night for the Scoopers, scoring 22 points.

Juneau Jones had 21 for the Cobblers, but it wasn’t enough, as Sturgis outscored the Cobblers 17-13 in the fourth to pick up the season-ending victory.
