GoFundMe campaign underway for family who lost home in Easter day fire

NISLAND, S.D. - Fire officials say a Nisland home was destroyed in a fire the evening of Sunday, April 1, 2018.

Fire chief Stan Lewis says firefighters responded to the blaze just before 5:30 p.m.  A neighbor who was outside doing chores spotted the fire and called it in.

Jay and Stephanie McMahon and their two children were all away from their home visiting family when the fire broke out.  

The fire was located in the northern part of the Arpan community on Gabert Road. According to Lewis, it took some time to get resoures to the fire. Volunteer crews from Nisland, Arpan, Vale and Belle Fourche were among responding departments.

The Red Cross was reportedly helping the family and a GoFundMe Family Fund has been organized for the family who lost everyting in the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
