Wayne Harry Jeffery, of Spearfish South Dakota, went to be in the presence of his Lord on April 20th, 2018 in Kayenta, Arizona at the age of 76.

Wayne was born May 29th, 1941 in Deadwood, South Dakota to Harry and Alberta (Christensen) Jeffery and grew up, along with his sister Judy Jeffery, on his family's farm in Spearfish, South Dakota.

Wayne learned, at a young age, the importance of hard work. He grew up where respect was earned and integrity was everything. He started earning his way through life in his early years, never afraid to work hard on the farm and always eager to accept new challenges. Wayne treasured the farm he has always considered home, as it symbolizes the togetherness and permanence of family.

After graduating from Spearfish High School in 1959 he went on to attend Black Hills University. His next pursuit in life was to teach in a one room schoolhouse in Mud Butte, South Dakota. Here he developed a love for teaching.

It was in 1969 when Wayne met his much-loved wife, Joanne Prescott from Poplar, MT, and they married on August 15th, 1970 in Wolf Point, MT. Starting their new life together, they moved to Williston, North Dakota. The following year (1971) they greeted their daughter Jacqueline Joanne into their lives. Wayne's position in Williston brought mining into his career and would remain a centerpiece throughout his life.

Over the next 30 years, Wayne brought his passion for the safety of others to the mining community. He did this through establishing safety programs and mentoring others. His work has been instrumental in several great companies including: IMC Corporation, The Carter Mining Company, Powder River Coal Company and L&H Industrial. His devotion helped the Rawhide Mine, owned by Carter Mining, receive the 1982 "Sentinels of Safety Award". Wayne was proud of this achievement. He also enjoyed his time providing annual refresher training to the Kayenta Mine.

These 30 years also were spent primarily in Gillette Wyoming. In 1974, their son Nathan Wayne was born in Spearfish South Dakota. Along with his career and his family, Wayne was a prolific reader and enjoyed wood working. Anyone who knew him knew his love for creating in his workshop. He took great pride for serving on the Campbell County Fire Board in Gillette, WY for 12 years. Wayne was a friend of many and enjoyed keeping up on their lives. He was a proud grandfather to his six grandchildren, and he was a loving and devoted husband.

Wayne started his own safety consulting business called Safety Training Resources. Much of this time was spent teaching the skills he learned throughout his life. At this juncture in his life he started to fulfill his wish to move back to the land he grew up on in Spearfish South Dakota. He built a new home with an amazing workshop. After retiring he enjoyed returning to the community he grew up with including getting close again with old high school friends. He converted to Catholicism and attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Wayne Jeffery is preceded in death by his mother and father and his grandson, Bryden Jeffery. He is survived by his wife of 47 years Joanne; his sister, Judy Jeffery; his daughter, Jacqueline and husband Clancy Roberts and their children, Isaiah, Joshua, and Sophia; his son, Nathan and wife Michelle Jeffery and their children, Aidan, Allyson, and Ashlynn; and many nieces and nephews.
