|State Gymnastics takes place February 10-11

PIERRE, S.D. - The State “A” and “AA” Gymnastics Meet will be held this year at the Aberdeen Central High School in Aberdeen. Opening ceremony for the combined TEAM competition will begin at 10:45 on Friday, February 10th, and at 10:15 on Saturday for the INDIVIDUAL & ALL-AROUND competition.
Nine teams will compete for the Team Championship. These teams represent the top three teams from each of the two region meets, along with the next three highest team scores from the region meets. Teams competing are Britton-Hecla, Chamberlain, Deuel, Hot Springs, Madison, Milbank, Vermillion, Wall/Kadoka/Philip and West Central.
The Madison team will be defending their 2014, 2015 and 2016 championships.
Madison had the top qualifying meet team score with 140.700. The top individual event qualifying scores are as follows: Morgan Kwasniewski of Deuel on Uneven Bars with a score of 9.125 and All Around with a 36.7; Tyra Zens of Parkston/Ethan/Hanson with a score of 9.275 on the balance beam; Jenni Giles of Madison with a score of 9.85 on the floor; Karlie Dartt of Wall/Kadoka/Philip with a score of 9.350 on the vault.

In addition to the 9 teams qualifying for team and individual competition, Montrose, Parkston/Ethan/Hanson, Sisseton, Stanley County and Wagner/Bon Homme also qualified individuals for the State Meet.
89 gymnasts will be competing in Class “A” over the two-day state meet.

Teams competing are Aberdeen Central, Brookings, Mitchell, Pierre, Rapid City Stevens, Sioux Falls O’Gorman, Sioux Falls Roosevelt, Watertown, and Yankton.
Mitchell is returning to defend their team title this year. Watertown had the top qualifying meet team score with 145.650. The top individual event qualifying scores are as follows: Jordyn Huneke, Rapid City Stevens on Uneven Bars with a score of 9.725; Myah Morris of Watertown on Balance Beam with a score of 9.90, Vault with a score of 9.775 and the All Around with a score of 38.325; and Payton Steffenson of Yankton on Floor Exercise with a score of 9.425;
A new champion will be crowned in all Class AA events.
In addition to the 9 teams qualifying for team competition, Huron, Rapid City Central, Sioux Falls Lincoln and Sioux Falls Washington also qualified individuals for the State Meet.
98 gymnasts will be competing in Class “AA” over the two-day state meet.
