Snake bite reported at Bear Butte State Park

STURGIS, SD - Sturgis Ambulance responded to Bear Butte Park for a rattlesnake bite on May 6, 2018 at approximately 11:00 am. The incident occured on the hiking trail.

The patient was transported to Sturgis Regional Hospital. Sturgis Volunteer Fire Department, Vale Volunteer Fire Department, Meade County Sheriffs Deputies, and Bear Butte Park personal assisted in the response.

Park officials and emergency responders remind the public to be aware of surroundings at all times and when hiking, wear hiking boots if possible. 

If bitten or you are with someone who is bitten by a rattlesnake, do not place anything on the bite, do not elevate the extremity and do no place any kind of tourniquet on the extremity. Call 911 immediately and alert emergency services. 

Due to federal HIPAA regulations, no other information about this incident is available to the public at this time.
