S.D. Corn, Spring Wheat, Oats Lag Planting Average

UNDATED - For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.3 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 2 percent very short, 13 short, 79 adequate, and 6 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 5 percent very short, 25 short, 68 adequate, and 2 surplus.

Corn planted was 6 percent, well behind 28 last year and 33 for the five-year average.

Soybeans planted was 1 percent, near 5 last year, and behind 7 average.

Winter wheat condition rated 1 percent very poor, 10 poor, 59 fair, 30 good, and 0 excellent.

Spring wheat planted was 51 percent, well behind 93 last year and 78 average. Emerged was 6 percent, well behind 68 last year and 44 average.

Oats planted was 47 percent, well behind 93 last year and 80 average. Emerged was 8 percent, well behind 74 last year and 50 average.

Pasture and range condition rated 5 percent very poor, 13 poor, 48 fair, 31 good, and 3 excellent.
