Sturgis Titans go 1-1 at home tournament Saturday

STURGIS, S.D. - Sturgis went 1-1 at their own tournament Saturday with a win over Wheatland and a loss to Winner/Colome.

In the Titan loss Saturday night, Winner jumped out to a 7-0 lead heading into the seventh inning, before seeing Sturgis score five runs to make it close.

Starting pitcher Ty Bolton almost went the entire game, but after allowing three walked in runs, Winner brought in Carter Brickman to close. Brinkman allowed one more run to walk in before shutting the door on the Titans.

Jackson Kinzer led the way for the Royals with 2 hits, a double, 2 R.B.I.'s and scoring 2 runs.

Brickman and Riley Calhoon added 2 hits and 2 runs.

Bolton finished with five strike-outs in 6 and 2/3 innings pitched.

For Sturgis, Nick Anderson had 2 hits and an R.B.I.

Brian Duran and Carl Nash each added a hit.

Tristan Walter took the loss for Sturgis, pitching five innings and striking out three. Gage Murphey came in for relief and also struck out three.

In other scores, Sturgis won the first game of the day 8-0 over Wheatland.

Wheatland recovered to beat Winner 10-2.

Newcastle went undefeated, beating the Black Hills Bombers 11-1 and Buffalo 11-1.

Buffalo beat the Bombers 5-3.

Sunday's schedule looks like this:

Wheatland will play the Black Hills Bombers at 10:00 a.m., Winner will play Buffalo at noon and Sturgis will play Newcastle at 2:00 p.m.
