A dedicated wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother in life, Marcella was born January 10, 1927, in Kingman, KS, to Benedict and Genevieve Wieser. As a young girl, her family moved to New Underwood, SD, and set up operations on a ranch that has stayed in the family to this day.

She met her husband, Robert Marvin Skinner, and was married on July 7, 1947. Robert and Marcella eventually made their way to Sturgis, SD, and began a family, raising an ambitious crew of five boys. Never one to back down from a challenge, “Dotty”, as she was known to her family and friends, took the excitement of raising a house full of boys and created a loving home for a family that would stretch far beyond the walls of 1344 Shephard Street.

Marcella was never satisfied to stand still, and as such, she worked all over Sturgis, most notably as the manager of the A&W Drive-In. Her legacy at this humble drive-in gave her the opportunity to nurture and mentor her sons, their friends, and many of their classmates. Her grandchildren were able to make their way to visit her there, at the Ben Franklin downtown, and in her later years, she could be found working as a tireless volunteer at the Sturgis Senior Center. She lived as a wonderful example of faith, hope, and charity and was considered a mother to many due to her caring nature.

Visiting family and friends were always welcome, and as such, Bob and Dotty’s door was always open to those who sought a fresh cup of coffee, a trip down memory lane, a conversation about sports, or a lively game of cards.

Marcella Agnes Skinner, of Sturgis, SD, passed into God's hands from natural causes in her home on June 25, 2018.

Grateful for having shared her life are her five sons, Steve “Rick” (Sharon) Skinner of Dell Rapids, Jerry (Kathy) Skinner of Yuma, AZ, Scott (Lorri) Skinner of Sturgis, Dan Skinner of Sturgis, and Shaun (Kerry) Skinner of Sturgis. Marcella is also survived by two sisters, Irene (Joseph) Cox and Mar (Don) Larson of New Underwood; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert Marvin; and four of her six siblings, Robert F. Wieser, Walter “Bud” Wieser, Mary Ann Johnson, and an infant boy.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 27, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, June 28, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Timothy Castor officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

A memorial has been established to the Sturgis Senior Center.
