Deadwood Gaming Up in May

May Deadwood Gaming Numbers up Slightly

News Release - June 27, 2018

DEADWOOD, S.D. - According to statistics recently released by the South Dakota Commission on Gaming, the May 2018 gaming handle showed a slight increase of 0.06 percent, the first monthly increase since January 2018, with slot machine handle increasing by 0.29 percent when compared to May 2017. The table game handle was down 4.28 percent, when compared to 2017’s table game numbers. Deadwood gaming operators rewarded players with $1,608,003 in "free-play" for the month of May, leaving taxable adjusted gross revenues of $8,727,312 for May 2018.

"Deadwood gaming operators remain optimistic that this monthly increase will be an indicator of the all-important summer season,” said Mike Rodman, executive director of the Deadwood Gaming Association. "May’s gaming increase coupled with the increase in hotel occupancy for May, gives us hope that 2018 will be a turning point for Deadwood gaming revenue.”

Deadwood gaming revenues still trail 2017’s numbers by 1.80 percent through May of 2018.

The Deadwood Chamber and the Main Street Initiative Committee have teamed up to bring a series of Sunday summer concerts to Deadwood’s Main Street on the corner of Main and Deadwood Streets this year.
