SPEARFISH, S.D. - Dylan Clarkson is the new President and Chief Executive Officer of Pioneer Bank & Trust, effective February 1. The 43-year-old Clarkson replaces longtime executive Kevin Whitelock, who officially retired on Friday after a 36-year career with the more-than-100-year-old local bank.
Clarkson is a 4th generation banker, now leading the 650 million dollar banking institution, founded by his ancestors in 1913. A native of Belle Fourche, he graduated with an economics degree from Montana State University in 1997. Dylan spent 19 years outside of the “family business,” working in automotive and, later, for American Bank in Bozeman. “As a 4th generation family member, I always felt it was crucially important to go out and prove to both myself and my family that I had more to offer our organization than just my last name,” Clarkson explained, “the experience of working with customers and colleagues at various levels of both the car dealership and the bank was immensely valuable and really prepared me for truly understanding the business, employees and customers.”
Dylan Clarkson worked his way up through various positions at Dick Walter Audi between 1997 and 2006, eventually becoming general manager of the Bozeman-area dealership. Similarly, starting in 2006, Clarkson worked in multiple departments, including as a Commercial Lender and Cash Management Specialist, at American Bank in Bozeman, where he was the Bozeman Area Market Manager upon leaving in early 2016 to join Pioneer Bank & Trust as Executive Vice President. “Kevin Whitelock is my lifelong mentor and I was deeply humbled to apply for, and eventually be named his successor,” Clarkson commented. “It is with enormous pride that I get the opportunity to lead our bank into the future and I feel very lucky be part of this extraordinarily talented team.”
Founded in Buffalo, SD in 1913, Pioneer Bank is a leading regional bank with 8 locations in western South Dakota, including 6 retail facilities, and assets in excess of 650 Million Dollars. Dylan Clarkson, his wife, Nicki, and their young son, Ben, live in Spearfish.
