RAPID CITY, S.D. - A Rapid City man has entered a guilty plea in connection to the death of a man in June of 2016.
In a plea agreement, 34 year old Mark Heinen pleaded guilty to second degree manslaughter. Heinen was charged in the shooting death of Kiawe Walker. After Walker was shot, he walked into a Rapid City fast food restaurant and asked for help. He died there.
Heinen admitted his conduct was reckless, saying he was using methamphetamine and carrying a loaded gun when he shot and killed Walker during a drug transaction that went bad.
Because of additional habitual offender charges, Heinen faces a maximum of 15 years behind bars and a $30,000 fine.
Sentencing is set for April 24, 2017.
