RAPID CITY, S.D. - The Sturgis Scooper Wrestling team came out on top of the team standings Saturday, winning the Region 4A title with an even 200 points. Rapid City Central and Rapid City Stevens finished tied for second with 190 points and Spearfish was fourth with 109 points.
Sturgis crowned four region champions. They were Jacob Wood at 106 pounds, Bailey Brengle at 145, Winston Brown at 160 and Joel Carpenter at 220. In all, Sturgis qualified 13 of 14 wrestlers for next week's state tournament in Sioux Falls.
Rapid City Central crowned five individual champions Saturday. They included t.J. morrison at 113 pounds, Bridger Kraye at 152, Kolby Kost at 182, Mathais Thompson at 195 and Donovan Spencer at 285. Central qualifed 11 wrestlers for state.
Stevens crowned four individual champions with Cody BeVier at 120, Spencer Stockman at 126, Cody Moser at 132 and Dante Colicheski at 170. Stevens qualified 12 wrestlers for state.
Spearfish had one individual champion -- Tyler Waterson at 138. they qualified nine wrestlers for state.
At the Region 4B tournament, Philip dominated, and will send nine wrestlers to next weekend's state tournament. Among them will be McCoy Peterson and Hunter Peterson -- brothers who claimed individual titles at 106 and 132 respectively Saturday. Also winning titles were Cody Donnelly at 138, Nick Donnelly at 152 and Jadyn Collier 113.
Hot Springs, who finished third in the team standings, will send five wrestlers to state.
Elsewhere in Class B, Harding County will send five wrestlers to state. They are Jesse McCann at 126, Sterling Lee at 170, Trig Olson at 182, Sam Adams at 195 and Trevor Gress at 285.
Lane Schuelke of Newell also punched his ticket to the state tournament at 160 pounds.
