Darwin Delwyn Hook was born at the Kelly place, about twelve miles northeast of Quinn in the Peno Basin, on June 22, 1934. He was the second oldest of seven children born to Lawrence and Violet (Pippert) Hook. His parents left western South Dakota shortly after he was born to move to Minnesota because of the Dirty Thirties. They moved back to South Dakota in 1946. He graduated from Quinn High and worked in the oil fields in North Dakota for a short time before he decided to go to business school in Rapid City.

After being out of school for three years it was hard to sit in a class room for six hours a day. Grades were never a problem for Darwin, as he was an honor student all through his school years. He left college and joined U.S. Army in November 1956. He came home on leave in December that year and married the love of his life, Linda Feller. Linda passed away December 28, 2012 after 56 years and one day of married life.

Darwin spent most of his working years working for an electric utility coop, a job he enjoyed for 34 years.

Darwin is survived by his three children, Jodee Shearer (Grant) of Wall, Jami Kitterman (Jim) of Wall, and Rocky Hook (Ronelle) of Pierre; six grandchildren, Garrett Shearer, Chelsie Shearer, Michelle Kitterman, Anna Kitterman, Courtney Hook, and Colbi Hook; one great-granddaughter, Alivia Kitterman; two brothers, Dwilyn "Peewee" (Peggy) Hook of Philip, and Jerry (Elaine) Hook of Rapid City; one sister, Nita Carroll (Tom) of Washington state; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Darwin was preceded in death by his wife Linda on December 28, 2012; his parents; and three brothers, Verlyn, Larry, and Monte Hook.

Arrangements are with Rush Funeral Home of Wall.
