STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Scoopers opened the boys District 4AA Tournament with a win Tuesday night over the Douglas Patriots.
Sturgis used a 13-5 3rd quarter run to take a double-digit lead – and hung on to win 75-66.
The two teams exchanged the lead several times in the first half, and Sturgis led by five at halftime, 38-33.
But Douglas struggled for points in the third quarter, and Sturgis was able to extend their lead to double-digits.
Although Douglas shot better in the fourth, Sturgis also heated up, and pulled out the win to send into the district championship game against Rapid City Stevens on Friday night.
Connor Crane led Sturgis 20 points and Dawson Geuke added 18 points.
Dylan Pourier led Douglas with 17 points.
Meanwhile, Rapid City Stevens struggled at times, but heated up down the stretch to beat Rapid City Central 65-49.
The cross-town rivals were tied mid-way through the 3rd quarter. That's when Stevens found their rhythm and pulled away.
Mason Archambault led the Raiders in scoring with 27 points.
Sturgis and Stevens will meet each other Friday night in Rapid City for the District 4 championship.
