STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Scooper girl's basketball team saw their season end after suffering a 62-56 loss to Douglas in the consolation final of the District 4AA Basketball Tournament Thursday night.
Sturgis jumped out quick on the Patriots – leading 12-6 after one quarter of play. The Scoopers held on to a 6-point lead at the half 25-19 – but the Patriots would heat up on their shooting in the third.
Two 3-pointers by Jeslyn Jindra and one by Jordan Toliver helped shift momentum the Patriots’ way – and they outscored Sturgis 23-10 in the third quarter.
That spurt was all Douglas needed, as they maintained their lead through the fourth and pulled off the upset.
Sturgis Coach Jordan Proefrock had hoped to settle her girls down after Douglas took the lead – put the Patriots were able to keep their momentum. Sturgis was also hurt by foul trouble. Loralee Stock and Olivia Jolley both fouled out in the second half.
Jordyn Tolliver led Douglas with 26 points. Jindra chipped in 16 points.
Brook Janz led Sturgis with 21 points.
Douglas now travels to Pierre Monday for the Region 2 Qualifier.
