New Underwood, Timber Lake open tournament with losses; STM wins

UNDATED - St Thomas More is now two wins away from defending their 2016 State A Girls Basketball title.

The Lady Cavaliers rolled over Madison in the quarterfinals Thursday, 57-32. Dru Gylten led St Thomas More with 29 points. The Cavaliers shot 43.8-percent from the floor, compared to just 24-percent shooting from Madison.

Up next for St Thomas More is Webster, who beat Little Wound 57-50.

At the State B Tournament, New Underwood dropped their quarterfinal game to Sanborn Central/Woonsocket, 66-59.

Brianna Phillipsen led New Underwood with 18 points. Lexi Ballard added 16 points.

New Underwood will play Timber Lake in Friday's consolation semifinal after they lost to Warner 65-39.
