|New Underwood rebounds to beat Timber Lake at Class B Girls

HURON, S.D. – New Underwood rebounded from a first round loss, and defeated Timber Lake in consolation play Friday at the Girls Class B State Basketball Tournament.
The Tigers jumped out to a 13-10 first quarter lead, and extended that lead to six at halftime. The Tigers never looked back and dominated the second half to win by 20, 51-31.
It was another great performance for Brianna Phillipsen, who led the Tigers with 15 points. Cerington Jones added 14 for New Underwood and Lexi Ballard added 10 points.
Loryn Schoelerman led Timber Lake with 13 points.
New Underwood will play Parker on Saturday for the consolation championship. Parker defeated Avon 56-36 Friday afternoon.
At the Class A tournament, Madison defeated Little Wound 55-38 to play for fifth place Saturday against Hamlin.
Hamlin, who came in the number two seed, lost Thursday night to Vermillion. They rebounded Friday to beat Dell Rapids 53-44.
Little Wound and Dell Rapids will play for seventh place Saturday.
