RAPID CITY, S.D. - Pierre came back from adversity several times Thursday night; and made it count down the stretch as they defeat Rapid City Stevens in a double-overtime thriller Thursday night.
Stevens came in to this year's state tournament with high hopes -- and they dominated Pierre early.
But, a couple of 3-point shots late in the fourth quarter for Pierre and some missed free throws for Rapid City Stevens sent the game into overtime.
After one overtime -- the two teams remained tied -- and in double overtime, the Raiders shooting woes from the free throw line didn't go away.
Stevens hit just 1 of 7 free throws down the stretch, and Pierre took advantage with a basket in the closing seconds to win 76-75.
Mason Archambault had a huge night for Stevens; scoring 32 points and 3 rebounds.
Peyton Zabel was equally as good -- leading Pierre with 31 points.
The other night game at the State AA also went to overtime, where Sioux Falls Lincoln outlasted Huron 56-47.
Earlier in the day, Aberdeen Central edged Brookings 56-52 and Sioux Falls O'Gorman rolled past Harrisburg 61-47.
Rapid City Stevens will face Brookings in the consolation semifinals Friday.
