STURGIS, S.D. - The Meade County Sheriff's Office has identified the pilot killed in a small plane crash Thursday night as 67-year-old Barry Vig of the Faith area.
Vig's Cessna 210 aircraft went down on his own private property near Opal, in the north-central part of Meade County. Vig was the aircraft's only passenger.
The sheriff's office say they were alerted at approximately 10:42 Thursday night that Vig's plane had not yet reported landing. It was reportedly flying from Rapid City back to the Opal area.
The Civil Air Patrol was notified, and Vig's plane was found around 3:00 a.m.
