ABERDEEN, S.D. - A decision on a planned hog operation in northeast South Dakota has been delayed until next month after owners of nearby properties voiced concerns.
The Aberdeen American News reports about 30 people voiced their opinions during a Tuesday meeting of the Brown County Planning Commission.
Tanya Torguson has filed permits for a hog operation north of Bath. But one neighboring property owner, Dave Nilsson, says he "can guarantee that I'm not OK with it." Another neighbor, Troy Malsam, says property values could decline.
County official Scott Bader says the project can only be approved if the commission gets a signed letter of consent from a neighboring business and four houses. He says a local ordinance requires the operation to be more than 2,600 feet from neighboring properties.
