Judith (Judy) Vynn Hink

Lifelong Lead, SD resident, Judith (Judy) Vynn Hink, age 86, passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior in Rapid City, SD on May 19, 2024.  Judy was born on January 8, 1938, in Deadwood, SD to Vincent M. Bertolotto and Edith R. (Rasmusson) Bertolotto.  She spent her childhood years growing up alongside her siblings in Lead, and graduated from Lead High School in 1955.

After her graduation, Judy went to work as a bookkeeper, starting at the Homestake Mining Company Payroll Office in Lead, and later at the Lawrence County Auditor Office, and Clark Oil Company in Deadwood, SD.  She then became a florist, pursuing her passion in Lead and Deadwood until her retirement.

While working for Homestake, she met and married Marlin E. Johnson, and was blessed with three children, Marcia, Ross, and Jolene.  Later in life she married Beverly R. Hink, and welcomed three additional daughters, Colleen, Marie, and Donna into her family.

Throughout her life Judy loved arranging floral arrangements, knitting, crocheting, and other crafting projects. She loved to play piano, garden, and enjoyed weekend picnics and camping in the Black Hills with her husband, friends and family.   She loved baking, and during holidays would bake tens of dozens of cookies, breads, and candies to be shared with those she loved.  Judy loved volunteering, and had a great sense of civic compassion,  volunteering her time and talent as a pianist and loved singing.  Judy was a long time member of Kiwanis Club of Lead, American  Legion Auxiliary  of Lead, United Methodist Church, and United Methodist Women,  Over the years she also volunteered her time and services, until her health began to fail,  to Jobs Daughters, Meals on Wheels, the Lords Cupboard, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, and was alongside of her husband, Bev, during his political and civic endeavors.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Edith Bertolotto; her husband, Beverly Hink; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Bertolotto; and one grandson, Clinton Devon Nelson.  She is survived by her brother, Vincent (Tony) A. Bertolotto, of Edmond, OK; sisters Cara Pat (Robert) Phillips, and Beth Bertolotto of Lead, SD; children Marcia Davis of Nemo, SD, Ross Johnson of Lead, SD, Jolene Geer and  partner Bobbi Mason of Sedalia, MO, Colleen (Dale) Schuett of Onida, SD, Marie Patterson of Wichita, KS, Donna Hink and partner Diane O’Brist of Wichita, KS;  seven grandchildren;  five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lead.  Burial will take place at 1:30 P.M. at Mountain Lawn Cemetery.
