STURGIS, S.D. – The City of Sturgis received more than 100 entries in its 84th Annual City of Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Logo Contest.
The city asked people to design a unique logo that will be used to promote the 84th City of Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in 2024. Top prize is $5,000.
Each year, the City of Sturgis uses a unique annual mark to highlight that years’ 10-day event.
The city sought artwork that used the existing City Brand Marks and incorporated stylized elements which would highlight the 84th Annual City of Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
The field has now been narrowed to five entries and the public is being asked to vote for their favorite. People can vote at: www.sturgis-sd.gov/rallylogocontest
The final mark selected will be used in a variety of advertisements, digital media, news releases, points of sale, products and advertising and a variety of merchandise that will be sold online and in locations in Sturgis and throughout the nation.
City officials say they were pleased with the number and quality of entries received.
“Having received more than 100 extraordinary designs, it will be a challenge to determine the winner,” said Lance Scherer, Sponsorship and Brand Manager for the City of Sturgis.
The entries came from Black Hills artists, and also others from across the state and nation.
Among those submitting entries was Linda Aylward of Arlington, S.D. Aylward said some friends saw the announcement on Facebook and encouraged her to enter.
She said she is not particularly tech savvy, so put together an entry she created with acrylic, pencil and ballpoint ink on canvas.
“I was really hesitant at first , but I went ahead and did a couple drawings. It was all done by hand,” she said.
Aylward and her husband have been coming to the City of Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for more than 20 years. She said they continue to return because they enjoy meeting people from all over the world and driving their Harley-Davidson motorcycles in the Black Hills.
“I don’t know if maybe we had the chance, we might just move out there,” she said.
