RAPID CITY, SD – For decades, the Black Hills Stock Show and Rapid City Chamber of Commerce have partnered to present Youth Day, always the first weekend of stock show.

Designed to showcase production agriculture with educational activities to include  a beef cook-off, Hippology, Livestock Judging, Horse Quiz Bowl, Livestockology, and Youth for the Quality Care of Animals, the day – set for Jan. 30th –  is hugely popular with kids and families alike.

But one thing was missing.  Until now.

The inaugural “Show Rite Youth Beef Show” premiered in 2020.  Based on the interest and participation, (100 competitors and over 180 head of cattle) it wasn’t a hard decision to bring it back for this year

And with a couple of additions; sheep and goat shows.

Showmanship and breeding heifers will show on Friday, Jan. 29, with steers on Saturday, Jan. 30 at The Monument (formerly Rushmore Plaza Civic Center) in the Rushmore Hall. Both will be held beginning at 10am.

The following weekend, beginning at 9am, Saturday, Feb. 6 will see the sheep show, with goats on Sunday, Feb. 7 at the James Kjertad Event Center on the Central States Fairgrounds.
