Fire destroys shop building, no injuries reported

BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. — The cause of a fire on Wednesday that resulted in the complete loss of a shop building has yet to be determined.

The fire was reported at approximately 5:00 p.m., on Prairie Hills Road. First on the scene were Belle Fourche Volunteer Fire Department Chief Aaron Thramer and Belle Fourche Police Officers Wallace Eddy and Tony Garcia.  The owners of the property were reportedly not at home when the fire erupted.

In addition to vehicles, tools,  and other assorted items, the structure housed ammunition, welding equipment and propane tanks. Firefighters spent approximately five hours containing the blaze.
The exact location of the fire’s origin and the cause have not been determined.
In addition to Belle Fourche and Spearfish fire crews, other agencies assisting with the call include Belle Fourche Ambulance, Belle Fourche Police Department, Butte County Sheriff’s Office, and Nisland Arpan Fire Department.
