2020 Sturgis Kiawanis Food Drive held differently this year

STURGIS, S.D. – The Sturgis Food Pantry will conduct their Annual Food Drive on Saturday, November 7, 2020.  The format for the 2020 drive will be dramatically different due to the COVID 19 Pandemic.

This year, there will be several drop-off points within the city.  Use of these drop-off locations will replace the traditional door to door pickup process.  Persons wanting to make a donation (food or cash) can simply drive up and drop off donations.  LITTLE OR NO CONTACT WILL BE NECESSARY.  All locations will have volunteer staff available to help lift or unload items.

All drop-off sites will open at 9:00 AM and will close at Noon on Saturday, November 7.
Locations include the following:
   Lynns Dakotamart, 1111 Lazelle Street
The Sturgis Elementary driveway – across from the Fire Hall
   Grocery Mart, 2216 Junction Ave.
   Harley-Davidson, 1040 Junction Ave.
Sturgis Food Pantry, 801 6th Street

The Sturgis Kiwanis Food Pantry serves residents of Meade County at no cost. Those using the pantry can visit the pantry once a month to receive grocery items that are provided by private donations, the Federal Government, and Feeding South Dakota.
Each month, hundreds of families are served by the pantry located in Sturgis.  All families are required to register and are pre-qualified to receive food items based on income and need.
The local food drive redistributes food from the food drive entirely to local residents. The Kiwanis food pantry is entirely run by unpaid volunteers.

Anyone wishing to be a part of this worthwhile effort may contact any member of Kiwanis or visit the pantry on Monday Wednesday or Friday between the hours of 9:00 AM and 11:45 AM for information.

Suggested food items the pantry can always use:
Canned vegetables, macaroni & cheese, any pasta noodles, pasta sauces, jams and jellies, peanut butter, ketchup, mustard, canned tomatoes, tomato sauce, hamburger helper, small vegetable oil, ramen noodles, canned fruit, breakfast cereal, flour, and sugar.

Monetary donations can be sent by mail to Sturgis Kiwanis Food Pantry, P.O. Box 4136, Sturgis, SD 57785

Food or monetary donations may also be dropped off at the Food Pantry located at 801 6th Street, Sturgis SD Monday, Wednesday, or Friday from 9 – 11:45 AM.
