RAPID CITY, S.D. – A blanket of snow greeted visitors to the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo Saturday morning, but the crowd was picking up as a full weekend of activities awaited them.
A ribbon cutting was held Friday morning marking the official start of the 65th annual Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo. Distinguished guests as well as members of the Stock Show Board met up at the Barnett Field House for the ceremony. After a few words, the ribbon was officially cut by Lieutenant Governor Larry Rhoden.
Stock Show manager Ron Jeffries says numbers were good from day one of the horse sale at the event center at the Fairgrounds. He was expecting equally good numbers at Saturday’s sale.
Rodeo Rapid City kicked off on Friday with the PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour. Chance Schott from McLaughlin, SD scored 86.5 points to finish in first place. Saturday night is the PRCA Xtreme Broncs.
The youngsters attending Saturday were delighted to hit the Animal Nursery and Cowboy Mounted Shooting was taking place in the Summit Arena ahead of Saturday’s night broncs event.
Saturday afternoon is a special event in the Barnett Arena. Monument Health his sponsoring a Special Rodeo. Participants are invited to come enjoy rodeo activities that are accommodating to individuals with disabilities of all ages. Each participant will be partnered with a “rodeo buddy” to assist during the rodeo.
Also, Saturday night is the Miss Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo Queen Competition at the Fairgrounds.
The annual Trade Show, with a bevy of new vendors this year, is open until 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
