Action heating up at the Gold Buckle Beer Tour Finale in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. – After the opening two performances of the Gold Buckle Beer Tour Finale, here is where things stand:

Bareback is tight at the top, with Richmond Champion a combined 171.5 on two. Tilden Hooper and Caleb Bennet are both sitting at 171 and Nate McFadden is just behind them at 169.5. A note that Rapid City’s Shane O’Connell is currently sitting 6th at 166, likely not enough to make the top eight, with a new group of cowboys coming in tonight and tomorrow.

Brody Cress leads the Saddle Bronc with 176.5 on two. Then it’s Taos Muncy at 172.5. Allen Boore and Jake Watson are 167.5. CoBurn Bradshaw is 166.5. Eagle Butte’s Shorty Garret is 166, but will probably need a little good fortune to make the top eight for Saturday.

The stock has been winning the Bull Riding. Nobody has been able to ride two and most haven’t ridden either. So Stetson Wright leads with 87 on one. Brady Portenier is in-the-hunt with an 86.5, followed by Jeston Mead at 81.5 and the great Sage Kimzey still has a chance to make the finals with an 80 point right last night.

Westyn Hughes has a commanding lead in the Tie Down Roping with a combined 16.1, then it’s Timber Moore (17.5,) and John Douch and Tyler Milligan each at 17.9.

Over in the Steer Wrestling it is Rowdy Parrott with a combined 7.8, followed by Ty Erickson at 8.0, then Jacob Talley is 8.4 and Jace Melbin of Fort Pierre, with an 8.8 that still could be enough to make the Finals on Saturday.

The team roping leaders are easy to spot with only four teams successful both nights. Kolton Schmidt and Hunter Koch lead with a combined 10.4, Then Matt Sherwiood/Trey Yates 10.8, Brenten and Chase Hall are 12.9, while Coleman Proctor and Ryan Motes are barely hanging on to Saturday hopes at 15.6.

New athletes in town tonight and tomorrow night. The overall top eight advance to the Finals on Saturday for a long round and then the Finale with the top four!
