Bon Homme County Fatal Crash

Adult, child killed in Bon Homme County crash

News Staff - November 2, 2019

SCOTLAND, S.D. – One adult and one juvenile died and another person was seriously injured Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash south of Scotland.

Names of those involved are not being released pending notification of family members.

A 1998 Pontiac Bonneville was westbound at the intersection of South Dakota Highways 46 and 25 when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign. The vehicle collided in the intersection with a southbound 2011 GMC Sierra K1500 pickup with an attached trailer. The pickup did not have a stop sign.

The Pontiac Bonneville rolled. A 10-year-old female passenger, sitting in the backseat, was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene. The front-seat passenger, a 64-year-old male, also was pronounced dead at the scene. The 72-year-old male driver received life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. Only the driver was wearing a seatbelt.

Receiving minor injuries was the 26-year-old male driver of the pickup. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported to the Scotland hospital.

Charges are pending against both drivers.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
