After overnight rain delay, Scoopers hold on to beat Douglas

STURGIS, S.D. - After being delayed overnight by a lightning storm, the Sturgis Scooper football game held on to beat Douglas 19-6 Saturday.

All the scoring took place on Friday night, before a storm brought heavy rain, wind and lightning. The storm forced officials to postpone the game to Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. When the game was postponed, their was 7:43 left and the Scoopers holding on to a 17-6 lead.

The Scoopers started the scoring on Friday night, with a 36-yard touchdown run by Trevor Erlenbusch. The Scoopers missed the extra point and the score was 6-0.

In the second quarter, Sturgis would strike again on a 24-yard touchdown run by Kaden Phillips. After another missed extra point, the Scoopers would lead 12-0.

Douglas got on the scoreboard in the second quarter, as Tyler Clark would scamper seven yards into the end zone to cap off a nice drive for the Patriots.

Sturgis would end the scoring in the third quarter on a 12-yard touchdown catch by Josh Fowler.

Sturgis finished with 291 yards of total offense. Quarterback Zach Shoun finished 9 of 15 for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Wren Jacobs led the Scoopers in rushing, carrying the ball 5 times for 60 yards.

Douglas finished with 234 yards of total offense. They were led by Tyler Clark's 16 carries for 32 yards and a touchdown.

The Scoopers win their first game of the season and are now 1-3. They will travel to Huron on Friday to play the Tigers. The game can be heard on KBHB.
