Annual dog days event helps raise money for Western Hills Humane Society

Gary Matthews - September 5, 2018

SPEARFISH, S.D. – There was a whole of shakin’ and tail waggin’ going on at the Spearfish Water Park Tuesday night.

The annual Dog Days in the Pool is held every year to close the water park for the season.

The event, sponsored by the Western Hills Humane Society, is an annual fundraiser that lets well behaved humans bring their four-legged friends come play in the water.

This year featured dogs of all sizes scampering and scurrying to and fro as they chased toys and each other in and out of the water.

All donations raised during the event benefit the Western Hills Humane Society, a no-kill shelter located in Spearfish.

The only rule – the park belongs to the dogs. That means dogs only in the water.

That worked out fine this year with temperatures only in the 50’s. Dogs, however, didn’t seem to mind.
