BHSU and South Dakota Mines drop Saturday football games

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Black Hills State football dropped its home opener to Colorado Mesa, 56-7 Saturday afternoon at Lyle Hare Stadium.

Nolan Susel led the BHSU offense in yards with 24 on the ground on 17 rushes, and in the air with 93 yards on six receptions.

Chance Eben passed for 140 yards and a touchdown, completing 10 of his 18 passing attempts.

Hasaan Williams scored the lone touchdown for the Yellow Jackets with a 27-yard reception in the first quarter.

Bailey Rosenstrauch led the defense with 20 tackles, including two for a loss. Ryder Blair added 13 tackles of his own.

Meanwhile, the South Dakota Mines football team fell to the Chadron State Eagles, 41-25, Saturday night in Chadron.

As a team, the Hardrockers tallied 488 yards of total offense, while Chadron collected 599. The Hardrockers had 202 yards rushing and 236 yards passing. They also racked up 24 first downs.

Individually for South Dakota Mines, Johannsen led the team with 115 rushing yards on 12 carries and a rushing TD and passed for 246 yards on 17-30 attempts with a passing TD. Zur led the receiving corp. with eight catches for 139 yards and score, while Isaiah Eastman collected three passes for 63 yards and Joe Luebbers hauled in three catches for 26 yards.
