Bison man found guilty of attacking his estranged wife sentenced to prison

LEMMON, S.D. – A man from Bison who was convicted of kidnapping and several other charges was sentenced to 75 years in prison today.

Richard Seidel was found guilty in Perkins County in July for beating, choking, kidnapping and raping his estranged wife. The jury found him guilty on four counts – first degree kidnapping, second-degree rape, commission of a felony while armed and aggravated assault.

Judge Eric Strawn sentenced Seidel to 45 years on the kidnapping charge, 25 years for rape, 5 years for committing a felony while in possession of a firearm and 15 years or aggravated assault. The aggravated assault charge is to be served concurrently with the other counts.

Seidel must also pay nearly $20,000 in restitution.
