COVID-19 cases decrease but hospitalizations surpass 300 in Tuesday report

STURGIS, S.D. – COVID-19 cases in South Dakota decreased today, as did active cases, as health officials reported 414 new cases and 6,044 active cases.

Of the 414 new cases, 411 are  confirmed and 3 are probable.

With the decrease in cases, came an increase in the number of hospitalizations. Health officials report 302 people hospitalized due to COVID-19 Tuesday, an increase of 24 today.

There were no new deaths reported today, keeping the state’s death toll at 288.

As for new cases across the Black Hills area, Pennington County reported 30, sending the county’s total to 3,207 with 632 active cases.

In Meade County, there were 5 new cases sending the cumulative total to 725 with 130 remaining active.

Lawrence County reported 2 new cases for a total of 569 and 114 active.

Other new cases across West River Tuesday included 6 in Oglala Lakota, 5 in Haakon, 3 each in Corson and Tripp, 2 each in Custer, Jones and Gregory and one each in Butte, Lyman, Todd and Bennett counties.

Overall, there were 64 total cases West River.

There were 1,158 new persons tested reported on Tuesday.
