COVID-19 related deaths increase by six in Friday report

PIERRE, S.D. – The number of new COVID-19 cases is down today, but the health department is reporting one its highest daily death tolls as six people have died from COVID-19 complications.

The Department of Health says three of the deaths are out of Pennington County, two deaths in Hughes County and one was listed in Minnehaha. The new deaths were listed as four men and two women in the 80+ age range, two in the 30-39 age range and one in the 60-69 age range.

As for new cases, Pennington County reported 8 new positive COVIID-19 tests today, sending their cumulative total to 624. Of those, 148 remain active. With the three new deaths today, Pennington County’s death toll is now 21.

Butte County, who recorded their first COVID-19 case yesterday, reported their second case today.

There were no new cases in Meade or Lawrence County. Meade currently has 7 active cases. Lawrence County has none.

The statewide active caseload is down 18 today to 886. There are 65 people currently hospitalized – up four from yesterday.
