News Staff - May 30, 2018

STURGIS, SD – Community leaders will try their hand at steer wrestling during the CINCH Team Varsity Cup High School Rodeo set for Wed., May 30, 2018 in Sturgis.

The CINCH Team Varsity Cup format inspires school spirit in small towns where high school rodeo athletes are among the best in the country.  Participating schools in the 2018 event include Belle Fourche Broncs, Faith Longhorns, New Underwood Tigers, Philip Scotties, Rapid City Cobblers, Sturgis Scoopers, and the Wall Eagles.

CINCH Jeans & Shirts Marketing Manager, Jessica Wahlert, describes CINCH's involvement as a natural evolution in CINCH's commitment to youth. "CINCH has always been about breaking boundaries. Our first big sponsorship was with the National High School Rodeo Association," Wahlert says. "As we look to further support and grow the future of our ranching, ag and community leaders, it was a no-brainer for us to find a new, competitive way to accelerate our high school athletes in rodeo."

As part of the rodeo, the ‘I Wanna’ Be A Cowboy’ competition features community leaders in steer wrestling  for fun entertainment and to show support for local cowboys and cowgirls.

Contestants include: Sturgis Chief Of Police- Geody VanDewater , Sturgis Brown High School Principal-Pete Wilson, Homeslice Corp-Clint Brengle, Earthworm Construction- Chris Olson, Brink Electric- Will Brengle Central States Sanitation-Tracy Konst , and Meade County Sheriff Investigator- Chris Wiliams.
