Charlotte Faye Jordan

- March 15, 2019

Charlotte Faye Jordan was born April 4, 1939, in Mobridge, SD, to Frank and Agnes Mary (Shynarek) Peterson, the younger of two children.  She and her older brother, Dean, grew up and graduated high school in Eagle Butte, SD, where their father, Frank, worked for the railroad.  Charlotte married Richard Anderson in 1958, and though the marriage was not to last, from this union was born her daughter, Cheryl Lynn.  Cheryl was later adopted from Charlotte’s husband, Edward Netterberg.

In 1963, Charlotte completed a three-year nursing degree at the Methodist School of Nursing in Mitchell, SD.  In her graduating class, she was the recipient of the Paul and Mary Dibble Award that recognized her for academics, ability in clinical areas, personality, and future contribution to the nursing profession.  Charlotte not only excelled in achieving a nursing degree, but was able to manage this while raising her daughter, Cheryl, as a single mother.  Charlotte went on to have a long career at the Fort Meade Veterans Administration Hospital near Sturgis, SD, retiring in 1994.

In 1982, Charlotte married her life partner, John Jordan, at the historic Fort Meade Chapel.  This marriage extended Charlotte’s family to include John’s children, Aaron, Jenifer, and Karena.  John and Charlotte packed a lot of memories into their 34-year marriage.  During the early years of their courtship and marriage, John and Charlotte could be found floating across dance halls throughout the northern hills.  Charlotte loved to dance and continued to do so in the last years of her life.  In addition to working, raising children, and doting on their grandchildren, John and Charlotte also traveled throughout the United States on their Honda motorcycle, and in their retirement years, spent many winters living in warm Arizona, and several holiday seasons living and working in California, selling pumpkins and Christmas trees.

In Charlotte’s almost 80 years of life, she experienced both joy and sorrow.  A particularly difficult time was the death of her oldest grandson, Ryan Russell Waterland.  In later years, this sorrow was lessoned by watching her daughter’s youngest son, Sean, grow into an honorable and hardworking young man.  In the last months of Charlotte’s life, she was most joyful when talking about her great-grandson, Russell, the son of Sean and his wife, Becca.  Nothing put a wider smile on her face than talking about and holding this newest member of her family.

Charlotte will be remembered by her family as a loving and caring parent and grandmother.  She had a particular soft spot for her many pets over her life, and in her later years found joy in her two dogs, Peanut and Charlie.

Charlotte, 79, died on Monday, March 11, 2019 at her home in Sturgis.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2019, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2019, also at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Herbert Cleveland officiating.  Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery near Deadwood, SD.
