Clifford Clarence Rusch, 94 of Spearfish, South Dakota, was called to his eternal home on January 16, 2020. Clifford was born on January 3, 1926, on the family farm near Onaka, South Dakota, to Clarence and Emma (Hagenlock) Rusch.

Clifford grew up in the Seneca, SD area and graduated from Seneca High School in 1943. Following his high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy on June 1, 1943, during World War II and served 3 years until his discharge in 1946. He served on the USS Mango and was stationed in the Philippines.

After returning from service, Clifford married Marilyn Kast on June 3, 1947, returned to farming and raised three children; Janette, Marcia and Don. He, along with his wife Marilyn and Del and Connie Kast, performed in a “wash tub string bass” quartet for local dances and community events performing country and folk music on Saturday nights in the local area. Clifford’s passion for music was passed on to his three children.

Some of his greater interests in life were hunting, fishing and flying his Piper J 3 Cub. During his flying farmer days, he delivered care packages during the harsh winters on the prairie and would run his trap lines.

After retiring from farming in 1990, Clifford and Marilyn moved to Spearfish, South Dakota and enjoyed a winter residence in Tucson, Arizona.

Clifford is lovingly survived by his daughter, Janette (Rod) Weber of Phoenix, AZ; his son, Don (Marsha) of West Des Moines, IA; nine grandchildren, Shannon (Adam) Henning of Sherwood, OR, Justin (Greg) Weber of San Francisco, CA, Britta (Todd) Butler of Leander, TX, Ryan (Chandler) Stroud of Darien, CT, Chris (Kaitlyn) Stroud of McKinney, TX, Katie (Greg) White of Ames, IA, Molly (Greg) Anderson of Urbandale, IA, Jake (Gary) McLaughlin of Ankeny, IA and Drew (Molly) McLaughlin of Williamsburg, IA; fifteen great-grandchildren; brothers, Ken (Marilyn) of Fairmont, MN, Robert (Darlene) of Onaka, SD and sister, Corinne (Joe) Bowar of Sioux Falls, SD, and many nieces and nephews.
