Coaches Association names coach and assistant coaches of the year

UNDATED – The South Dakota High School Coaches Association has released its annual awards for coach and assistant coach of the year for basketball.

In Region 4, David Hollenbeck of St Thomas More was named boys head coach of the year. Also for St Thomas More, Assistant Girls Basketball Coach Bill Freidel was named girl’s basketball assistant coach of the year.

Head coach of the girls Rapid City Stevens Basketball team, Travis Swartz, was honored at Coach of the Year and Timber Lake’s Bryce Schaeffer won Assistant Coach of the Year for the boys.

In Region 8, there was a tie for boys basketball coach of the year between Brett Gardner of Winner and Joe Martin of Edgemont. Winning boys asssistant coach of the year was Larry Aaker of Winner.

Winning assistant coach of the year for girls basketball was Wall’s Madison McLaughlin. There was no winner in the boy’s category.
