Custer holds off Sturgis girls and boys Saturday

CUSTER, S.D. – Custer came away with victories over Sturgis in both girls and boys games Saturday night.

In the girls game, the Wildcats rode Josey Wahlstrom’s 12 points to a 42-39 victory.

The Wildcats held off a late Scooper rally as Wahlstrom knocked down two free throws to seal the win.

Sturgis led the Wildcats 10-4 at the end of one and enjoyed a 10 point lead at the half.

But Custer would get their first lead of the game in the fourth quarter and they would never relinquish it.

Sturgis shot just 20-percent from the floor and only managed 10 points the entire second half as Custer would outscore them 16-5 in the fourth.

Sturgis was led by Kylie Shaw’s 12 points.

In the boys game, Custer started fast, outscoring Sturgis 19-8 in the first quarter, only to see the Scoopers work their way back in the second half.

Sturgis would outscore Custer 18-13 in the third to come within three, but Custer used a late 3 pointer from Jace Kelley and two free throws from Dustyn Fish to seal the win.

Kelley led all scorers with 18 points while Fish chipped in 12.

For Sturgis, Marcus Myrick had 15 points with Zach Shoun adding 12.
