Dale Edlund and his twin brother, Dean, were born February 19, 1928, to Julius and Clara (Carlson) Edlund on a farm near Whitewood, SD.  They joined four older brothers, Lester, Clarence, Donald, and Cliff, and two sisters, Esther and Leona.  Another brother, Carl Wilber, was born in July of 1929.  Unfortunately, Dean died when the twins were four years old.

     The family lived in Spearfish Valley, Rapid City, Whitewood Valley, Tilford, and Sturgis while Dale was growing up.  Dale completed 8th grade and then started working odd jobs.  He entered the Army in 1946 and was discharged in 1947.

     In 1952, he married Hazel Dobyns; they had five children and lived in the Black Hills of South Dakota, Nebraska, and Wyoming.  Dale followed the oil field for a number of years.  He also worked on and off for Homestake Mine.  In 1963, he was involved in an accident at Homestake Mine, where he lost his left leg.  In 1969, Dale decided to move his family to Gillette, WY.

     Dale worked several jobs in Gillette.  In 1974, Dale and Hazel divorced.  He stayed in Gillette while he managed Gillette Mini Storage.  In 1986, he married Maxine, and they later divorced.

     Dale met Carol Linngren in January of 1996, and moved to Spearfish, SD.  They enjoyed 23 years of companionship.

     Dale LeRoy Edlund, age 91, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2019, in Spearfish, SD.

     Dale is survived by his companion, Carol Linngren of Spearfish, SD; sons, Cliffton Dean (Angie) Edlund of Lander, WY, Sam Edlund of Gillette, WY, William Edlund of Gillette, WY, and Jeff (Nan) Edlund of Lander, WY; daughter, Robin (Bob) Donovan of Gillette, WY; ten grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; all of his siblings and their spouses; one great-grandson; several nephews; and a niece.   

     Memorial services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2019, at Black Hill National Cemetery near Sturgis.
